Aruba · Dutch Caribbean

A school for those who learn for life, not for haste.

OCC Academy of Education offers structured language instruction in Aruba, built on real curricula and taught in small groups.

The Programmes

Many languages. One standard.

Each course is taught from a purpose-built curriculum and assessed against the Common European Framework of Reference. Group cohorts meet weekly; private instruction is available by arrangement. To ask which languages are running now, simply reach us.

The Island's Own Tongue

Papiamento is taught by our sister school.

For Papiamento, the heart-language of Aruba, in its Aruban orthography, instruction is offered through Cas di Papiamento, the dedicated home of the language within the OCC family.

Founded in 2012 by Swinda A. Maduro-Schwengle. An educator and translator, she was one of the figures who helped bring Papiamento into Aruba's formal education system.

Naturalization Preparation

For those preparing to become Dutch citizens.

After several years of legal residence in Aruba, you may become eligible to apply for Dutch citizenship through naturalization. The standard path is five years; spouses of Dutch citizens may apply after three. Eligibility depends on your permit type and personal circumstances, confirmed by the Government of Aruba. Every path includes the naturalization test in Dutch and Papiamento, and OCC Academy prepares you for it.

What the test requires.

The official requirement is a minimum CEFR A2 level in both Dutch and Papiamento, together with knowledge of Aruban society and customs. The test is administered by the Government of Aruba under the Kingdom Act on Netherlands Nationality.

What we prepare you for.

Dutch from A1 through A2, taught at OCC Academy. Papiamento from A1 through A2, taught through our sister school Cas di Papiamento in Aruban orthography. The official minimum is A2, but A2 cannot be reached without A1 first, and our path takes you through both. Knowledge of Aruban society and culture: its history, customs, and the civic context of the test. Mock examinations to build confidence before the real one.

Registration is your responsibility, and the window is short.

Registration for the naturalization test is opened by the Government of Aruba once per year, online only, at www.ea.aw. Walk-in registration is not accepted. The window is short and quota-limited; in recent years, places have filled within hours. We do not monitor the portal on your behalf. We prepare you so that, when the window opens, you are ready.

Be ready in advance. Have your documents prepared as PDF scans before the portal opens: an extract from the Aruban Civil Registry (Censo document, 5 florins, valid for six months), any previously issued naturalization test declarations, and an EPB labour-market diploma or SPO with final grade list if applicable.

Beyond Languages

An institute, forming.

OCC Academy of Education is broadening beyond language instruction. Two new disciplines are taking shape: by arrangement now, by ordinary access in time.

Professional & Corporate Education

Education built for organisations beyond language alone: leadership, sector practice, and the disciplines a workforce grows by. Forming. By arrangement.

Seminars & Visiting Faculty

A seminar series with visiting faculty from beyond Aruba, for the professional community. Forming. By application.

Our Approach

Taught with discipline. Built to last.

We do not sell shortcuts. We teach languages the way they are actually learned: steadily, in good materials, with a teacher who knows the road.

We believe a language is a foundation for belonging, and that the door should be open to those who wish to make a place their home.

I

Real curricula

Every course is taught from a manual written for it: structured lessons, vocabulary, grammar, and dialogue, not improvised week to week.

II

European alignment

Courses are mapped to the CEFR, the standard used across Europe, so a level means the same thing here as it does abroad.

III

Honest assessment

Progress tests and final examinations measure what was learned. We are candid about scope: a foundation course is named as one.

IV

Small groups

Instruction in cohorts small enough that the teacher knows each learner, with private tuition available by arrangement.

The Standard We Hold

The Common European Framework

The CEFR is the international standard for describing language ability. Our courses run from A1 through C1 and state their level plainly, so you always know where a course begins and where it will take you.
